In a post on the Lockington Community Group Facebook page, a resident revealed three mattresses, a fridge, freezer and washing machine were among a number of items that had been dumped.
“Wow, that’ s a lot of stuff, it would've taken a bit of time to unload that, very selfish,” one person said.
Another said: “This is bloody disgusting. Imagine the world if we all did this.”
Campaspe Shire general manager of community Keith Oberin said it was disappointing to see people leaving such a mess.
“It is always disappointing when people dump rubbish of any sort, when so many options have been made available across the shire,” Mr Oberin said.
“People need to take responsibility for the waste they generate and not expect the rest of the community to pay for it.
“Our community should hold these rubbish dumpers to account and are encouraged to report anything they see.”
Litter can be reported to the Environmental Protection Agency Victoria online at ref.epa.vic.gov.au/get-involved/report-litter
Fines for littering can range from more than $330 for a dropped cigarette butt to over $6000 if the matter ends up in court.
