Construction of the new $8.3 million centre is under way on the corner of Service St and Haverfield St in Echuca.
The NSW and Victorian governments have contributed $7 million towards the facility, while ERH is raising $1.3 million for the fit-out and completion of the wellbeing component of the centre.
President Peter Dahlenburg said the Echuca Club was pleased to support the project and urged the community to get behind the new, purpose-built facility.
“We see the new ERH Cancer and Wellness Centre as a wonderful opportunity to be involved in a facility that will support many people within the community both now and into the future,” he said.
ERH Medical Day Treatment Nurse Unit manager and Cancer and Wellness Centre project lead Lyn Jeffreson said the centre would allow more local people to access treatment close to home.
“Donations from local community groups and businesses such as this are crucial in supporting ERH to achieve the fundraising goal of $1.3 million to provide a holistic cancer and wellness service for the Echuca-Moama and wider community.
“We cannot thank the Echuca Club enough for their generous donation and the support they provide to ERH.
“Local people will benefit from a high-quality cancer care that goes beyond treatment alone. Co-located specialist consulting rooms, purpose-built treatment areas, specialist nursing staff and allied health staff will provide a more holistic, patient-centred approach to care all in the one place.”
The centre is expected to be completed in mid-2022.
“The long-held vision at ERH is to be a leader in the provision of high quality cancer care for our local community using the latest, best-practice evidence to guide the ongoing development of our care and services,” ERH interim chief executive Robyn Lindsay said.
“The ERH team are committed to this vision and we are delighted that we are now moving closer to providing state-of-the-art facilities to support our expert clinical team.”
