More volunteers are needed to keep the Echuca Historical Society Museum open for visitors and conserve the town’s heritage.
The society is recruiting for people to join as part of the museum reception/front office team to cover Fridays, alternate Saturdays and some Sundays — plus the occasional weekday gap so the regular team can have some time away.
All you need to make the grade are a pleasant and friendly disposition, attention to detail, reasonable handwriting and some computer skills.
EHS president Matthew Wilson said while there were a number of volunteer options available, the museum needed people interested in retaining historical information and welcoming visitors.
He said the core purpose of the roles available was to index items from the museum’s Riverine Herald microfilm collection.
“For that we are looking for people who have no trouble functioning in a busy, at times slightly noisy, environment,” Mr Wilson said.
“You will be working in our comfortable archive office, and we need some of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s Riverine Heralds indexed; that way articles can be easily found for research purposes.
“When transcribed, this index will then be added to our database.”
The museum is open daily from 10am to 2pm and training will be given at a time to suit — and like the front-of-house positions, some computer skills will be required.
Mr Wilson said once training was complete, volunteers could work their own hours across the opening times, within a roster system.
“For all positions it is preferable if the applicant can get a working with children registration and a police check,” he said.
