More than 250 entries graced the courts over the weekend of the Easter break after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Echuca Lawn president Brian Gledhill said the club was more than happy with the return to the courts.
“It was a fantastic event,” he said.
“We had a really good turnout, really strong competition in each category that we ran, and it was great to be back after the year out.”
Gledhill said a new look event had proved a winner.
“We changed things up this year and switched to a round robin,” he said.
“From the feedback we have received so far the format was quite popular with the players as opposed to the traditional knock-out tournament we would have run.
“It gave people more of an opportunity to be on the court and that's the best thing you can hope for out of a tournament like this.”
The only issue was a lack of spots in the tournament due to ongoing issues with court numbers following the Echuca Moama Bridge project.
Six courts have been removed as the bridge found its way through the Victoria Park precinct, and as yet have not been replaced.
“It's disappointing for us,” Gledhill said.
“We would have loved nothing more than to have had more spots in the tournament.
“We don't want to be in a position where we have to turn people away and unfortunately we had no choice.
“But that's a reality of the position we were in. Hopefully we will be able to take more competitors in the future.”
While Gledhill said the challenges had been disappointing for the club, it would not overshadow the successful return of the event.
“Those we were able to have in the event produced some great tennis,” he said.
“And that's the key thing for us at the end of the day, being able to put on a really good event is what we strive for each year.
“We are glad with what we delivered and we look forward to the event returning.”
