On Friday, March 26, walkers will be clocking up the kilometres for compassion, or more specifically the Caritas Ks fundraiser.
“We at Caritas Australia work with communities to help them achieve their development goals and build a better future for all,” Caritas Sandhurst Diocese co-ordinator Kerry Stone said.
“When a crisis hits, we work hand-in-hand with local communities and churches to bring aid and relief to people whose lives have been devastated by natural disaster or conflict.
“That's why we have partnered with St Mary's and the schools to raise funds for people around the world simply by walking and accepting donations.”
From 7am until 7pm, community members are encouraged to make their way to the St Mary's Church car park and walk, ride or run around the 600m block in solidarity.
“Women, men and children often have to walk, cycle and swim kilometres just for water, to go to school and get to safety,” Ms Stone said.
“We want people in Echuca-Moama to get out and about in hopes of not only raising money for these countries but raise awareness.”
The students at St Joseph's College have made it clear they are in it to help.
“We have privileges here in Australia and if you can help someone who may not be as well off as yourself, why not do it?" St Joseph's College student Claire Byrne said.
“It won't hurt you to help someone else.”
St Joseph's College teacher Ruth Phillips said the school would have representatives at the walk all day.
“We don't want to break the chain so we will have groups of students and hopefully staff down walking,” she said.
If you aren't able to make it on the day, you can make a donation online at lent.caritas.org.au/caritas-ks
