That's why Echuca Specialist School will be taking on Swan Hill Specialist School in the ‘Walk around Australia’ challenge.
Students and staff alike will be strapping on their sneakers or jumping on their bikes, scooters or anything in between to add kilometres to the team's tally.
“We've encouraged the students to record any physical activity they can do while at home or at school,” Echuca Specialist School principal Paul Marshall said.
“It's important for us to make sure everyone is keeping fit and healthy during this time in isolation.”
For the school, it's not just about physical health.
“It's a good way for us to show the students if they're out keeping busy and fit, they're also improving their mental health at the same time,” Mr Marshall said.
And it's not just the students getting involved.
“We've had a few staff members who have really risen to the challenge,” he said.
Each participant is asked to record their kilometres and add them to a shared spreadsheet on Google classrooms and the numbers are tallied together.
While the team members are friendly with Swan Hill Specialist School, that doesn't mean there won't be a bit of competition.
“We have a great relationship with the school and this will be a great way to bond,” Mr Marshall said.
“We may have some students make the trip across to the school and some of theirs may come here in the future.
“This doesn't mean we don't want to beat them, because we will.”
The competition will run until the end of term two.
