‘Dan’s Cherry On Choc’ is up against ‘Erin’s mum’s caramel slice’ in the head-to-head battle, with the winner set to walk away with $10,000 and their flavour on shelves for customers.
To enter the competition, Mr Nathan had to create his own milk flavour by two to three flavours out of 20, design and then name the final flavour creation, which he did with the help of his two daughters, Taya and Zadie.
“I didn't believe my wife when she told me at first,” Mr Nathan said.
“I said ‘no way am I doing it’ after her telling me I'd be on billboards, buses, posters, you name it.
“After my daughters found out I couldn't say no.”
From February of this year, ‘Dan’s Cherry On Choc’ has been in Woolworths, Coles, independent supermarkets, service stations and convenience stores around the country.
“My wife received the email back in February saying I was one of two finalists out of 63,000 entries and that I am needed in Sydney for a photo shoot in a weeks time,” Mr Nathan said.
“They were going to fly me there and cover my accommodation and expenses.”
Mr Nathan was not able to get to Sydney with such short notice, but after speaking with the Oak Milk team, was able to arrange the photo shoot to be in Melbourne, where he said that it felt like he had a million photos taken.
“The Oak team were great to deal with.”
The winner of the competition is calculated by sales and votes with the sales weighted at 80 per cent of the tally.
Voters have their own chance to win $1000 just by voting.
Voting closes on June 30, and the competition ends on October 31. To cast your vote, visit oakflavourgenerator.com.au
