It’s all part of the ongoing ‘drive’ by house staff to widen its activity horizons and embrace more members of its surrounding community.
House manager Rob Foran is a believer in “taking it to the streets” when it comes to activities for members.
The idea for a silo art tour came from seniors’ week along with a grant provided by the Campaspe Shire Council seniors’ week grant.
The tour saw them traverse to the Rochester silos, stop to eat at the Colbo Hotel while they pondered the Colbinabbin Silo artwork.
They then headed to Kyabram to view the painted water tanks before making their way to Tongala to check out the street art.
“All the travellers reported having a terrific day out and revelled in the experience,” Mr Foran said.
“It also proved a great opportunity for our staff and volunteers to provide something different for our community, and the perfect way for members to meet new people and get out of their own houses.
“We would all like to thank Campaspe Shire for the funds, and Echuca Neighbourhood House for the loan of its bus.
“For some seniors, this kind of thing isn't possible due to lack of funds or access to transport, so it was heartening to break down some of those barriers – and give people a fun day out.”
