The Victorian public transport minister has responded to State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell’s plea for the re-opening of a Shepparton bus stop.
Ms Lovell spoke in parliament in October to call on Public Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams to reopen the bus stop on Zurcas Lane, which closed in May 2023.
The bus stop, outside Harmony Villages, was used by the many residents there to get into town, as well as by members of the East Shepparton Bowls Club, who could catch the bus right to the front of the entrance of the club.
Since the closure of the bus stop, the elderly residents of Harmony Village need to walk up to a kilometre to catch the bus at Shepparton Marketplace.
In response to Ms Lovell’s demand, Ms Williams said the government had “no plans to change the current arrangement”.
“The stop was closed without consultation, and village residents and bowls club members want their bus stop back,” Ms Lovell said.
“I will continue to work with residents to pressure the state government to listen to the community’s concerns, reverse this decision and recommission the Zurcas Lane bus stop.”
