Greater Shepparton City Council is inviting feedback from residents, business owners and organisations on its intention to enter into a lease with Munarra Limited, for the Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence.
The proposal is for the council to lease the land to the back of the Shepparton Sports Stadium for construction of the centre.
According to council, the MCRE will be a state-of-the-art, nationally significant centre designed as a hub of connection and transformation for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people across Australia.
The intention is for the MCRE to be run by Munarra Limited, a not-for-profit partnership of Rumbalara Football and Netball Club, Melbourne University and Kaiela Institute.
“Community consultation is an important step in the process and council is looking forward to hearing back from the community on their views about the leasing of the land,” Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said.
In 2016, the council gave in-principle support for a proposal to provide land on the site for the MCRE project.
The Munarra Centre Project Heads of Agreement was signed in 2018 by the council and the project partners.
