“We have played the Rich River Golf Club five or six years in a row,” Penny said.
“The crowd is fantastic, it is always packed, and it is always a good night.
“People go up and stay on purpose just to see our show.
“If you are after a fun night, that is what we are all about, with everything sounding great.”
Penny has been playing Stevie Nicks since 2011 and has run Tusk—The Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show herself since 2015.
“I was a cover band singer all through my 20s, and one of our sound engineers said one day, ‘You sound a bit like Stevie Nicks at times. Maybe you should look at doing a Fleetwood Mac show’,” Penny said.
“And I was 24 then and thought it was a joke.
“Then fast forward to 2011, and I joined an 80s show that had a side project of Fleetwood Mac.
“The minute the guitarist heard me sing, he said, ‘We can put you in our Fleetwood Mac show’.
“And I thought, let’s see how well I can sound like Stevie Nicks, how well I can actually do this if I give it a try, and that was it, that was how the show came about.”
Penny really knows how to interact with the audience after 30 years of cover band experience all around Victoria.
“So, I thought I would take that experience and deliver it in a Fleetwood Mac tribute show,” she said.
“It is like seeing a rock show or a full-on comedy show, but it is still authentic Fleetwood Mac
“All the musicians in the show are incredible, the best of their kind.
“We haven’t scrimped on talent to deliver a different kind of show.
“Most people who would go to see a Fleetwood Mac show would go to a theatre and sit and watch, whereas we play places around the country that don’t have seating, so we are all about the movement.”
Penny’s two favourite Fleetwood Mac songs to perform are Edge of Seventeen and The Chain.
“They are the most intense, impactful songs,” she said.
“I mean, Edge of Seventeen is just like an explosion of sound, and everyone hears it; they all rush up immediately.
“The Chain starts soft and builds up to a monstrous climax, and everyone sings and loves it.”
Tusk — The Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show is on Saturday, July 13 from 9pm at the Rich River Golf Club, with free entry.
