Hairworx Moama has recently undergone a modern renovation after changing ownership in July to become Moss Hair Salon.

The new principal owner, Trish McPherson, has spent more than 22 years as a hairstylist and made the major decision to take over the business.
The previous owner Brooke McGrath shaped the original Hairworx salon for many years before having a baby and handing the salon over to Trish, who had worked with her for 10 years.
“Brooke decided to have a baby and go down the baby path and so we just changed roles because we wanted to keep it the same,” Trish said.
“With me taking over it meant that we still had the same staff and our clients, and still had the same hairdressers.
“I imagined it for quite some time, just working with Brooke, what the space could be.”
Trish aimed to offer clients an exciting change using her creativity to rejuvenate the space.
“We had a great team of people who worked so hard and dedicated themselves to work around the clock,” Trish said.
“It was Terry and Marty, and their apprentice Tyler.
“They didn’t sleep, they just worked.”
The determined team of builders, hairstylists, and Trish’s father banded together to transform the building in just four days.

Her vision was to brighten the space and give it a fresh-feeling atmosphere.
“Brooke’s worked really hard to build this business, so I’m just nurturing her business moving forward,” Trish said.
“She’s the one who made it what it is, I was just lucky enough to take over in her footsteps.
“She’s this bigger part of it and she always has been.”
The salon’s name change to ‘Moss’ was inspired by Trish’s favourite colour, green.
“Moss was just something that rolled off my tongue,” Trish said.
“I wanted something short and catchy, and quite earthy.
“It was just easier logistically to change the name from Hairworx.”
The salon offers many services, including hair colouring, cuts, chemical hair straightening, eyebrow waxing and tint, and cosmetic injectables with Dr Catherine Colliver.
“She looks after our clients with her private appointments,” Trish said.
“The space is quite communal.
“We also rent the space out for bridal parties, for hens parties who want to do makeup.”
The team at Moss Hair Salon is Trish McPherson, Leah Dyson, Larissa Bray, Brooke McGrath and Bella Anderson. They are also looking for a new apprentice.
“It was definitely a massive team effort to get to where we are,” Trish said.
“I love meeting new people and being creative.
“Our biggest thing is producing great hair and making people feel great about themselves.”
