The school was one of 800 across Australia to receive their share of brand new tennis racquets in the hope of getting more children into the sport.
This year’s prep students took home their own tennis racquet and ball, ready to get on the court.
“The preps were so excited to receive their very own tennis racquet and tennis ball,” Lockington Consolidated School sports co-ordinator Jackson Gray said.
“In previous years we would get a tennis coach in and the students would have a week of lessons, but because of COVID-19 we weren’t able to.
“But it’s great our students will now have the opportunity and encouragement to practice and develop their tennis skills.”
Now in its fourth year, the roadshow will have a bit of a twist this time around. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the event has gone digital with tennis legend Todd Woodbridge dialling in to schools along the tour.
“There are so many skills that kids can develop at a young age by playing tennis, regardless of whether that’s on the court, in their backyard or even in their lounge room,” Mr Woodbridge said.
ANZ Bank is supporting the tour.
“We’re really proud of our continued support of tennis at a grassroots level, encouraging Australians to get active and look after their wellbeing,” ANZ retail managing director Katherine Bray said.
“Over the past five years this partnership with Tennis Australia has delivered racquets to thousands of communities across the country, helping young kids to get involved in community sports like tennis.”
Nanneella Estate Primary School, Pyramid Hill College and St Patrick's Primary School (Pyramid Hill) have also been included in the program.
