The tour provides information on grid upgrades, including the Victoria-NSW Interconnector, commonly referred to as VNI West.
VNI West has a preferred easement through parts of the Gannawarra region, including areas south and east of Kerang.
The easement, which provides legal right of way for the construction and planning of VNI West infrastructure on owned properties, will be between 70m and 120m wide.
Transmission Company Victoria, the company responsible for VNI West, said landholders are its priority, and it will contact affected landholders from late September.
The company expects to publicly release a detailed preferred easement of VNI West by the end of October, with compensation available to landholders where an easement is acquired.
State Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said landholders will have options about the compensation they receive, warning them not to rush into agreements.
“I would not be recommending anyone sign up immediately unless they are super-satisfied with the package they are offered.”
He said that, historically, the best outcome for landholders occurs through compulsory acquisition of property.
Council will host the tour on Thursday, October 17, beginning at 9am with presentations from energy operators at Kerang Memorial Hall.
“This event is a great opportunity to hear what is proposed and to understand how these developments work within the network and learn how current projects operate,” council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said.
