Gannawarra Shire Council is seeking feedback on projects in Cohuna and Kerang that are proposed to receive funding from the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
The program, run by the Transport Accident Commission, funds safety improvements on Victoria’s most dangerous roads and intersections.
Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said he thanked the TAC for the funding, which had made important road safety works possible for the region.
Eight projects are earmarked for funding, subject to approval from the Department of Transport and Planning, and the TAC.
In Cohuna, an upgrade to the intersection at Island and Tennis Rds, including the installation of raised pedestrian crossings either side of Apex Park, is proposed.
A roundabout and speed reduction measures at the Channel and Market Sts intersection have also been shortlisted.
“Council is aiming to reduce the number of vehicle collisions that have occurred at these intersections over many years and improve pedestrian safety,” Mr Rollinson said.
Resident feedback will be accepted until 5pm on Friday, January 17.
“All feedback received will be considered when finalising the designs, with approved projects needing to be completed by 2027,” Mr Rollinson said.
“Council will keep residents updated regarding the status of these projects and when works occur throughout the next 12 months.”
Feedback can be provided at gsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay, through forms available at the council’s customer service centres, by calling 5450 9333, or emailing council@gsc.vic.gov.au
