Held at the Kialla Fire Station, this event is red-hot with family entertainment and resources to promote fire safety awareness.
Excitement will ignite for children as they delve into activities, meet CFA’s Captain Koala, receive a show bag, and gaze at a display of fire trucks, including miniatures from the Tatura Fire Brigade.
These smaller models are fitted with hoses, enabling rookie rescuers to experience firefighting firsthand.
“It’s a nice, fun family day,” Kialla Fire Brigade health and safety co-ordinator Gina Sozzi said.
“But it’s also about engaging with community members in Kialla and beyond.
“They can talk to us about whatever they need regarding fire safety.”
The event is a one-stop safety shop, featuring a mobile education unit providing essential fire safety tips and designated stalls offering information on topics such as smoke alarm regulations.
Ms Sozzi said community outreach is crucial, especially as the region continues to grow.
“In outer areas, more and more homes are being built, and new homeowners may not know what to do during a bushfire or home fire or how to obtain a fire safety kit,” she said.
“We have a lot of information available for people on a bit of land they may not know.”
For those with a fire crackling in their belly, Open Day is also a chance to learn more about local brigade volunteering.
Ms Sozzi said volunteering is about more than just darting to a fire.
It involves prepping homes and land for fire season, conducting fire danger ratings, signing off on burn-off permits, and more.
“If anyone wants to join a brigade close to where they live, this is a great opportunity to chat with local members,” Ms Sozzi said.
While the event showcases all things aflame, the only thing sizzling on Open Day will be the sausages.
Gold coin donations are appreciated in exchange for a snag to support the brigade’s operations.
The Kialla Fire Brigade Open Day is on Sunday, November 10, from 9.30am to noon at the Kialla Fire Station, 133 Central Kialla Rd, Kialla.
