Aided by a Federal Government Saluting Their Service grant, the Seymour RSL has an extra $10,000 in its pocket to go towards planning the big day.
April 25 will see the usual dawn service held at the Seymour Health gates, and the main march on Anzac Ave.
The funding will assist the planning committee in providing attendees with breakfast and lunch, a coffee van, a kids’ jumping castle, and audio and visual coverage of the services, among other activities.
This isn’t the only grant the Seymour RSL has been awarded in recent times.
On April 10, it was announced that the Seymour RSL would receive $5000 from the Victorian Government’s Veterans Capital Works 2024-25 grant program to go towards upgrading the kitchen facilities of its base on Station St.
Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell also declared on April 4 that the Seymour RSL would receive $900,000 for refurbishment if a coalition government was elected.
Seymour RSL president Matt McLaughlin said the grants were a welcome aid.
“We’ve got a very ageing RSL building, and we need the money for it,” Mr McLaughlin said.
“We’re not the only ones in need, but my main focus is on my members and my veterans.
“It helps the RSL get some more money in our pockets for our veterans.”
In the lead-up to Anzac Day, the Seymour RSL is fundraising for the Anzac Appeal.
You can find branch members, veterans and current army personnel selling badges, biscuit tins, chocolates and lollies on Station St and at the Seymour Bunnings up until April 23.
