An arts exhibition, trivia afternoon and a trip to Healesville Sanctuary were among the activities supported through the second round of Greater Shepparton City Council’s seniors festival grants.
In total $3000 was awarded to six local clubs and organisations for activities held during the annual Victorian Seniors Festival in October.
The grants were made available through state government and council funding to support the participation of seniors in a range of locally led and delivered activities.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali acknowledged the important social role the festival played in the community.
“Each year the Victorian Seniors Festival provides residents with a packed calendar of events with a range of activities, shows and social outings they can take part in,” he said.
“It is an important initiative which encourages seniors to get involved and mix with other community members.”
Each organisation received $500 for activities to enhance social interaction, connection and relationships.
