Focused on native plants, Tulla Natives caters to the home gardener and provides wholesale stock, with all stock grown on site.
The Wakool nursery features banksias, eucalyptus, grasses, melaleuca, callistemon, casuarinas and acacias among other species.
The Brookes were delighted to be acknowledged at the event, particularly being from a small dot on the Campaspe Murray map.
“I’m excited, this is such a fun event tonight,” Mrs Brooke said.
“We’re just so little in the grand scheme of things, it’s awesome.
“We’re blown away. We’re so busy when we have our open days and we’re so well-supported.”
They acknowledged the power of their community and word-of-mouth in strengthening their business, which also attracts crowds from afar.
“The customers are amazing,” Mr Brooke said.
“Every customer who’s happy will tell their neighbours. We get people travelling 200, 300, 400km just to come to us.”
The amount of energy put into their business, along with the significance of winning the award, is not lost on the couple.
“We are super proud of our very hard and humble beginnings,” Mrs Brooke said.
“It’s been a big sacrifice. Every weekend, after work, especially finding cash when you’re starting out ... has been a challenge,” Mr Brooke said.
“We’re being rewarded, and it’s nights like this that make it all possible.”
