Last Thursday, May 20, marked the 20th occasion she had hosted a Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer Council Victoria at her Kyvalley property.
While the main day to attend a Biggest Morning Tea this year is reserved for Thursday, May 27, Mrs Hastie said she always hosted a week early to allow guests the opportunity to attend a later event.
About 30 people gathered to enjoy her morning tea, followed by a ‘chicken and champagne’ lunch in the garden and also, most importantly, a good catch-up after missing 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The guest speaker was Liza Curtis, who spoke about her work in East Timor.
There were plenty of prizes won in the competition and there was a trading table of mainly fresh produce and plants for sale.
Everyone contributes on the day. Helen gave a special thanks to Keegan Nursery at Kyvalley.
The day raised $1,060, bringing the total amount raised over the 20 years to $9,053 by a Biggest Morning Tea hosted by Helen Hastie.
Helen thanked all the supporters of her event over the past two decades.
“It is a combined effort and all are to be congratulated,” she said.
Every year an average of 304 people in Campaspe Shire are diagnosed with cancer, while 36,000 people are diagnosed in Victoria.
By hosting or attending a morning tea, people will help Cancer Council Victoria continue its life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs for those affected by the disease.
