Council had agreed to pay for one third of the total cost, which will provide a $25,000 improvement in air-conditioning and $15,000 for new stage curtains.
The remaining cost will be covered by the Berrigan War Memorial Hall management committee.
One half of its contribution will be paid by a low interest loan from the council, which must be repaid in five years.
Berrigan Shire director of corporate services Matt Hansen said the hall does get ‘‘quite unbearable’’ during summer events because of the sub-standard air-conditioning.
‘‘The main auditorium hosted a few weddings and parties during summer and we were told it was really hot,’’ he said.
‘‘It can get cold in the winter, so we would install a reverse cycle system. Sometimes when a few bodies are in the main auditorium during cold nights, it’s okay.
‘‘The current stage curtain set up is about 60 years old and is starting to become transparent. It’s not just one curtain that we’d install, we would also include backdrops.
‘‘Council asked its management committees for a request of funds to be adopted for the budget and agreed this was a reasonable request.’’
Council is expected to adopt its draft budget in May, after which it will be submitted for public comment.
