The Lost Dogs’ Home holds a special place in both mine and Ravi’s heart, as the North Melbourne shelter is where Ravi lived for the short time between the bad place she came from, and her forever home with me.
The fundraiser seemed perfect for us, and so we just needed to set a fitness goal, and a fundraising goal.
When I adopted Ravi, she was already two years old, and she didn’t know too much about what being a dog meant.
She didn’t “get” what her toys were for, or treats, or walks, and when people tried to pat her, she would get scared and flinch away, thinking people might be trying to hit her.
Even now, nearly a year after I adopted her, we’ve had two big dog years of learning about the world to catch up on — rest assured, she more than understands pats now.
Sniffing and following trails helps her tap into her ‘inner dog’ and helps her understand a little more of the world.
So our fitness goal was easy: let’s walk 100km, go to new walking tracks, and let her sniff out the world and get in touch with her surroundings.
Our fundraising target was set at $500, just a little more than I adopted Ravi for, and five dollars a kilometre, but before we even step out the door, we hit our target.
I’ve raised the target to $750, and hopefully we can hit the target again!
Anyone willing to support our fitness challenge can head over to our fundraising page at petfitnesschallenge.com.au/nicole-thomson to learn more or donate.
The Lost Dogs’ Home themselves have shown incredible support for Ravi and myself, sharing our story across their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LostDogsHome.
I’ll be posting updates about our adventure on the fundraising page both in the lead-up to March, and throughout the month.
