James Hayes has been nominated in the Qoin Small Business Achiever Award category, while Madison Blunden received her nomination in the Kangan Institute Inspirational TAFE Student Award category.
Mr Hayes, 29, was nominated for his his business ALPHA tyres, working with a business model of 24-hour mobile service to passenger, truck, agriculture and 4WD clients.
Starting with no capital and no loans, he has built the business with his own hard work to now include three fully equipped trucks and a physical shop front.
Mr Hayes said he saw an opportunity to provide something different to the industry.
“The industry is really well established at this point, so if you want to get into it you need to find something new,” he said.
“Some businesses will come to you for tyre changes, but it's a part of what they do. We have made it our core business.
“Tyres are one of those things that are essential for all of us, particularly those in agricultural industries, and for people working there isn't always the opportunity to go into town and get these changes done.
“Being able to find something we can do differently and a way we can assist has given us the chance to really build the business and to find our way into the industry.
“To be nominated for an award like this is fantastic, it's a great honour to be recognised in this way.”
Ms Blunden, 20, was nominated for her passion for working with animals, having completed her certificate four in veterinary nursing in 2020, setting herself up for a career working with animals while also helping her mother through a battle with cancer.
Ms Blunden is now working with Echuca Veterinary Clinic as she continues to pursue her dreams of working in the animal industry.
“I've always loved animals,” she said.
“Ever since I was a little kid they've been something I've been passionate about, and I love that I've been able to find my way into a career where I can work with my passion.
“The practical side of my studies has been fantastic. It's a really good experience and I'm so glad that I've been able to have it and that I get to continue in that field now.”
