“I wrote this play as part of my Bachelor of Theatre and Performance degree and was inspired by some of the police court reports I'd read in issues of the Riverine Herald from the 1890s,” Francie said.
“It’s set in the 1890s Echuca and follows the story of Gertie Hogan who finds herself unfairly arrested after a run-in with a group of arrogant local businessmen, and she is forced to spend a night in the Echuca lock-up.
“But she has some feisty friends willing to stand up for her and the next day, she faces the patriarchal system that constitutes Echuca’s local magistrate court.”
Think you’ve got what it takes to bring this hilariously historic play to life?
