Detectives raided a Railway Rd address on Tuesday, June 16, where they found an established hydroponic cannabis set-up inside the house.
“There were 232 plants in various stages of growth,” Detective Sergeant Barry Gray of Campaspe criminal investigation unit said.
“It's a significant find.
“It's a large number of plants compared to other places we've seen and I would say a quite expensive set-up.”
Rochester man Anh Tran was arrested and charged with cultivation of a commercial quantity of cannabis.
The 25-year-old was remanded in custody overnight before facing Bendigo Magistrates’ Court the next day.
He was further remanded in custody to appear in the same court on September 30 for a committal mention.
Det Sgt Gray said the search warrant was the result of information from the public and police intelligence.
“This is not a usually a big problem in Rochester. It's usually out-of-towners bringing ill will to the town,” he said.
“We know this will make a difference and impact on people who grow it and those who shouldn't be using it.”
Det Sgt Gray said it took police most of the day to seize all the plants and disassemble the operation, as power had to be cut to the house to make it safe.
