The brainchild of local artist Tarli Bird, a two metre by two metre backdrop will be transformed into a stunning string artwork installation in the Port of Echuca's Pop Up Park.
But it won't be Ms Bird in charge of its creation, it will be left in the hands of the community, with plenty of string on hand to add your own piece to the bigger picture.
It’s not the first string installation Ms Bird has created, though it is the first to grace the streets of Echuca — with the artist already trialling the idea in Melbourne and Sydney.
“I use a lot of string in my own art,” she said.
“And I’m looking forward to doing something in the Port area.
“Especially with the school holidays, I think it will be another thing to attract children, getting them to help create the string installation.
“Hopefully we get a lot of people through.”
The event is supported by the Campaspe Shite Council, with Bird awarded $1600 to create and run the installation.
“The shire had funding available for artists to apply for grants that would involve the community and help activate public spaces,” Ms Bird said.
Ahead of the two-day event, Ms Bird said she was looking forward to engaging with the local community through art.
“I think it’s great to have people interacting and contributing to create an overall artwork,” she said.
“Hopefully they feel like their little piece of it can contribute to the final piece.”
Further adding to the interactive festivities at the Pop Up Park, Trucked Up Entertainment & Press Play will present a live music event, Streets of Your Town, on Sunday.
With Freya Josephine Hollick and Fenn Wilson performing, Bird said she was excited to see the two events come together.
“I think both of our events will work really well together with helping create a lively atmosphere,” she said.
“It looks like it will be fantastic weather this weekend, so it’s a great excuse to have a wander in our local town.”
● Tarli Bird will be at the park from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 10, and Sunday, April 11, to assist with the installation's creation.
Streets of Your Town will kick off from noon on Sunday, April 11.
