ECHUCA’S Kobyn James is continuing his path to the top.
The young gun was selected in a Cricket Victoria under-16 team which competed in the Western Summer Series during January.
The series took place in Dunkeld and Hamilton against the under-17 Vic Country, Vic Metro and South Australian teams.
The series was created in a bid to give young players an opportunity to still play after the under-17 national championships were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Teams competed in a mix of T20 and 50 over matches during the competition.
Kobyn has been a regular feature for Echuca’s A grade team this season in Goulburn Murray Cricket.
KIARA Dean has taken another step forward in her shooting career.
The 19-year-old has been selected as a member of the new Shooting Australia National Pathways Squad.
The squad is one of three tiers of a new look national squad, with the pathways squad dedicated to those considered capable of achieving higher honours who have demonstrated commitment to succeed in the sport.
Dean, who was named Echuca-Moama’s junior Sportstar in 2018, said she was excited by her selection. “It’s a great opportunity for all of us,” she said.
“We were given the opportunity to apply for the squad a couple of months ago, and I was contacted by the national coach just before the squads were officially released to let me know I had been selected.
“You’re selected based off your form in previous shoots, be it in junior or senior level, so it’s an honour they’ve given me the opportunity based on what I’ve done in the past.”
