The Echuca Moama Shave, a community event dedicated to raising money for local families affected by cancer, will be held this Sunday, June 30, at 2pm at the American Hotel.

“The event started as a way for Echuca Moama to come together and show members of the community facing cancer that we are backing them in their fight,” one of the organisers, Asha Davies, said.
“We started this event last year, in Year 11, after discovering just how taxing living with this disease can be and how inconveniently expensive it is, as 10 dollars for hospital parking seven days a week adds up very quickly,” she said.
“Witnessing our friends and loved ones endure the unfortunate circumstances, we were inspired to create an event to raise money and support locals in their fight.”
The Echuca Moama Shave does not donate any of the money raised on the day to a foundation.
Instead, every cent will be distributed to members of the community who are coping with this disease.
Last year’s Echuca Moama Shave raised $32,000, which helped fund an accessible bathroom in a local family’s house and assisted with paying for groceries, fuel and all the added expenses that are part of many people’s cancer journey.
“We also aim to help people staying in Melbourne or more urbanised areas for treatment with the added costs,” Asha said.
“This year, the Echuca Moama Shave strives to have a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer and bring the community together.”
For this year’s event, 35 people have volunteered to lose their hair.
There will also be live and silent auctions, live music and raffles made up of donated items from Echuca, Moama and surrounding communities.
Before the 2pm hair-cutting, the Echuca Moama Shave is holding a pre-event VIP ticketed lunch from noon on the rooftop of the American Hotel.
The pre-event VIP lunch includes a multi-course meal paired with amazing local wines, craft beer and traditional cans.
