Having relocated from India 16 years ago, Dr Anup Shenai started at Rochester Dental Clinic, buying the business in 2011.
Proving to be a hit in the region, he expanded his services and started Moama Dental Clinic in 2016.
Working alongside his wife, Ketki, and a team of visiting dentists and support team, Dr Shenai credited their work for the practice’s success.
“I’m feeling amazing,” he said.
“It’s a good achievement, but it’s something our team required.
“We have had a bit of run-down since COVID and then we had the floods, where we basically had both the clinics closed down for three months.
“The girls really stuck around and they really deserve this.”
Dr Shenai also acknowledged his fellow finalists, who he believes deserve appreciation for their hard work in a tough climate.
“I think running a business is challenging these days,” he said.
“Even (though) we won, everyone who is a finalist definitely deserves some award, because running a business is getting tougher and tougher.
“An award and recognition definitely is encouraging.”
Mrs Shenai echoed the sentiments, feeling proud of the work that allowed the clinic to be honoured in this way.
“The fact that people chose it means we must be doing something right,” she said.
“Something must be working.”
