Named Colour Me Happy, the performance brought 150 of the kids together in a swimmingly bright fashion to dance, sing and have fun to finish off the year.
From kangaroos to clowns and lightning bolts, the theme of the concert gave the little ones a world of fun and colour to play with.
Indigenous connections primary performing arts teacher Sue Meeking said herself and the school were proud of the students and what they had achieved.
“The purpose is not so much to show off talents, but to offer experiences and encourage the children to gain confidence and follow instructions,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity for teachers to see their students in a different environment and families seeing their children working hard.”
The concert preparation took about six months to bring to fruition; each of the seven classes of the junior school had an act to perform about colours, with I can sing a rainbow obviously on the agenda in line with the giant rainbow backing the stage.
The children performed to about 600 attendees on Wednesday, December 8, and Thursday, December 9, and Ms Meeking said the audience was warm and enthusiastic.
“With COVID it was an on-again, off-again — kids showed a lot of resilience and patience and were able to lift up to give it another go in December so their families could see it,” she said.
“The whole project was about the community coming together. It takes all levels of the school community and volunteer parents to bring things together; a lot of teamwork and what we call community at the school, which is one of our values.
“I often say to the kids, ‘we work hard and aim high for a positive gain’, and this time especially we didn’t give up easily and had a great outcome.”
