For tips and tricks on how to get people to vote for you, The Riv sat down with 2019 and 2022 People’s Choice winner TalkSmart Training owner Dawn Ferrier.
Mrs Ferrier travels all over Australia delivering first aid and CPR courses.
She said she didn’t have any strategy or plan to get people to vote for her business.
“I just put it on my Facebook page,” she said.
“I put it on my Facebook and said, ‘if you have nothing to do, can you vote for me?’ and people came back with, ‘We voted for you.’
“I was pretty stoked with that, actually, because some serious big businesses were in it.”
The first time TalkSmart Training won the People’s Choice award Mrs Ferrier also won the Home-based business category.
“It was overwhelming to sit there and think about what had happened,” she said.
“The second time it was the People’s Choice, and I just went ‘Thank you very much I really appreciate the votes that you gave me.”

Mrs Ferrier thinks that it is her friendly nature and the way she presents the training that made people want to vote for her.
“I am a friendly chick and I put the training in a way that makes sense to them, I break it down, so people can understand,” she said.
“Because when it gets real, you need to remember some things because when you call 000, they may not come for 45 minutes or so.
“Because I care about the people, I care about the relationships that I have with the people and I try and help them the best I can because that is what it is all about.”
Mrs Ferrier encouraged business owners to enter future awards, as it is a good way of advertising and raising awareness of products.
