He had booked her to ride Rokatta for the Kilmore races on Thursday last week.
Archard started the day in hospital, where he is being treated for an ongoing illness.
Lloyd started the day at the track; until the ride on Rokatta when she fell from the Archard horse in the third on the card – and ended the day in hospital; something fast becoming an ongoing condition for her.
This is Lloyd’s second fall in barely three months.
Speaking from the hospital bed, Archard admitted to being worried when he saw the 19-year-old pitched from his horse in the $23,000 bet365 Odds Protector Plate over 1462m.
“Maddy does a lot of work with us and when I saw her come off, with most of the horses already behind her and coming on strong, it could have been much worse,” Archard said.
“I rang her this morning to see how she was and she has been so lucky; all she has come out with is a badly bruised hand.
“But when I saw her get up and hobble towards the ambulance, cradling her left arm with her right I thought at the time ‘this could be really bad’.
“Fortunately she reported there were no broken bones, and she got sent home nursing a badly bruised right hand.”
Rokatta went on to cross the line first and Archard was confident if Lloyd had stayed in the saddle it still would have won.
He said it had been his pick of the day, with the four-year-old mare set to break her maiden.
“She flew out of the gate; but they had only covered 50m or so when Maddy fell,” Archard added.
“Rokatta was right on the running rail, having come out of barrier one really fast, and she might still have been getting settled when Rokatta shied at something on the rail and that’s all it took.”
Lloyd has only been back in the saddle for a few weeks following another race fall – this one at Dunkeld in November – which saw her sidelined for two weeks after concerns about hitting her head, leaving her groggy and confused.
She has been having the best season of her short career; and was in the top 10 of the Victorian jockeys’ championship and had been leading the country jockey’s championship.
But after her first accident has slipped back to fourth in that competition, five wins behind leader – and fellow Swan Hill rider – Harry Coffey.
Last week she captained the country team in the Rapid Race series at Flemington, which involved seven events up the famous straight there.
“It is very exciting and I can’t believe I have the opportunity to do it,” Lloyd said at the time.
“I am so grateful for all the people who have supported me so I can get this chance.”
Those same people will be waiting to hear how much of a setback this latest injury might cause.
