A new junior program run at the Echuca Back 9 Golf Course is ready to nurture the next generation of golf players.
Aimed at teaching children aged between five and 12 how to play golf in both a fun and safe environment, sessions will build upon the foundations of the sport with a focus on development of basic motor skills and confidence within the individual.
The sessions will be run by Tommi Wesley, who has recently moved to the twin towns and has an extensive background in running junior sport clinics.
Wesley said he was excited to teach children the finer details of golf and share his passion for the game.
“It’s a great sport to get involved in,” Wesley said.
“You meet a lot of people of different ages and from different walks of life.
“You learn people skills and how to make conversations with anyone.
“And it’s a sport you can play throughout your life. You don’t have to play it all the time, but if you’ve learnt it as a kid, you’ll be able to pick it up whenever you want.”
The program starts from April 19 and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, with both group and private clinics available.
“We’ll get kids hitting some golf balls, and set them up to hit out on the fairway,” Wesley said.
“Then some basic ball handling, catching and throwing tennis balls and getting them running around to engage the kids.”
“It’s about having a fun environment to learn a new sport.”
Group clinics run at $10 per session, while private clinics are charged at $30 per half hour or $50 for the full hour.
