The Lions Club raised half the money itself through its annual golf day and then convinced the Australian Lions Foundation to match that amount.
Laurie Stewart, John Hewlett and Graeme Birch of the Echuca Lions said they had all been impacted by cancer, which was a big factor as to why they wanted to raise funds for the centre.
Mr Stewart said he spent six months in a cancer centre.
“It means something to all of us,” he said.
“I had pancreatic cancer, John had prostate cancer and Graeme had bladder cancer.”
Echuca Regional Health clinical liaison project officer Lyn Jeffreson said the donation was appreciated.
“We want to acknowledge the commitment of the entire community, who, through donations like this have given back to the community,” she said.
“A big thank you to the Echuca Lions for their support.”
Mr Hewlett collected more than $3000 towards the total amount raised.
He said he and the rest of the Echuca Lions were thankful to all the local community members and businesses that donated on the golf day in March.
“We know it’s been difficult time for a lot of local businesses after all the lockdowns, so we really appreciate the support,” he said.
The Echuca Lions hold a golf day annually, with past events raising money towards Echuca Neighbourhood House, VIVID Disability Support and other upgrades at ERH.
