Local business Northern Constructions Group has been awarded the Echuca Aerodrome project contract by Campaspe Shire Council after an extensive tendering process.

The project is an upgrade for the current aerodrome facilities and includes increasing the pavement strength, widening and extending the runway and improving lighting.
There will also be a new helipad and aeromedical shelter built to better help facilitate patient transfer.
Campaspe Shire chief executive officer Pauline Gordon said it was a real sign of local competitiveness to have an Echuca organisation win the contract.

“For me, one of the best things is that a local firm has been awarded the contract, which shows that with the calibre of people that had put in for it, that Northern Constructions are up there with the best of everyone,” she said.
“We are really excited that we can work with them and grateful for the funding that we received, meaning that a local company’s going to benefit from a major project.”
Council was awarded $2.35 million in funding in January by the Federal Government for urgent upgrade works to the Echuca Aerodrome under round three of the government’s Regional Airports Program, with council committing $2.45 million towards the project.
Although this project will mean some short-term disruptions to the aerodrome, council has tried to minimise the effect.
“While the construction is actually happening and to support the current users, we won’t be charging any fees or landing fees,” Ms Gordon said.
“This is a way of just acknowledging there’ll be some short-term disruption, but in the longer term they’re going to have an outstanding runway and it will be a bit longer and a bit wider.
“People will feel safe in knowing they can land there safely and it’s good quality. We’re very grateful to the government for their contribution.”
