The arrival of these tankers is part of the Victorian Government’s ongoing effort to enhance firefighting resources across the state.
“These brigades often play an active role in strike teams across Victoria and these new tankers will only further assist our firefighting efforts throughout the state,” District 22 Commander Peter Dedman said.
“They have some fantastic enhancements, with upgraded crew protection systems, extra equipment stowage, electric monitors and electric rewind hose reels.
“Environmentally, we’re also reducing impacts through the use of recyclable building materials and higher levels of emission controls.”
Shepparton is one of 48 brigades receiving a new heavy tanker funded by the CFA capability package.
This program, launched in 2020 as part of the Victorian Government’s Fire Services reform, invested $22.73 million to produce 48 heavy and two light tankers for brigades across Victoria.
The Victorian Government’s program has also funded three additional tankers for Numurkah, Nathalia, and Euroa, ensuring these communities are well-equipped to handle fire emergencies this summer.
The new tankers come equipped with the latest technology, including electric monitors and enhanced crew protection systems. Each vehicle also boasts a 4000-litre water capacity, a vital upgrade for local and state firefighting efforts.
“Our heavy tanker has only been to one fire so far, but we are looking forward to having this new addition over coming weeks,” Euroa Captain Damon Rieusset said.
“We’ve previously had a 3,000-litre heavy tanker and not only does this new one have increased water capacity it also has the latest technology that helps to reduce firefighter fatigue, with improved safety and comfort features.
“It has instilled invigoration in the brigade, and we have all enjoyed learning how to use the new tanker and training with it.”
