This year, students are being asked what they would say to parliament if they were an MP.
To enter, students need to record a video of themselves delivering a member’s statement that they would make to parliament.
A member’s statement is an opportunity for elected members to make a brief statement of up to 90 seconds in state parliament on matters of interest or concern to them and those living in their electorate.
Students could record themselves or use an animated avatar.
“I often meet with many brilliant students who are passionate about matters in our local community,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“This is a great project for students to undertake on their own or to complete as a class project with their teacher.
“It provides students with a voice about their own communities and encourages them to think about the issues that are important to them, their families, and friends.’’
The competition is open to all Victorian primary and secondary school students, with age categories of Years 5-6, Years 7-9 and Years 10-12.
Students could win $500 for themselves and $1000 for their school.
Entries close on Friday, June 16, at 5pm.
