Look out! EMTC's Little Shop of Horrors has a cast

After judging more than 20 auditions, Echuca-Moama Theatre Company's production team has selected a cast of 13.

And director Glen McFadden couldn't be more pleased.

“The standard was exceptionally high and the quality of all the auditions left our panel with some difficult choices and I thank them for all their help in coming up with this stellar cast,” he said.

Heading the cast is Liam Brown as meek flower shop assistant Seymour, and Tamara Cadd who stars as sweet and ditzy co-worker Audrey.

Ethan O'Brien will star as the egotistical dentist Orin, while Lauren Douglas and newcomers Sian Fowler and Sarah White will sing and dance their way through the show as street urchins Chiffon, Crystal and Ronette.

Of course, Little Shop would be nothing without the carnivorous plant Audrey II, who will be voiced by Gerard Oman and puppeteered by Jamison McFadden.

The ensemble, who have minor roles, include Ivy Jensen, Zali McKee, Honni Goulding, Brigid Dullard and Amber Halliwell.

With no-one auditioning for the role of nosy flower shop owner Mr Mushnik, EMTC is calling on actors to fill the role.

“We will cast our net far and wide to find our perfect, slightly cantankerous Mr Mushnik,” Glen said.

“We hope this will be finalised as soon as possible with anyone interested to please contact us to arrange their own audition.”

Based on the 1960 black comedy film, Little Shop tells the story of insecure and put-upon florist's clerk Seymour who pines for co-worker Audrey.

During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood.

The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store.

However, after Seymour feeds Audrey’s dentist boyfriend, Orin, to the plant after his accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

"I really love the 60s feel of the music and the retro style of the show that takes you back to the old days of a sci-fi movie at the theatre,” Glen said.

"We hope we can capture that with this show. And maybe even get you to burst into song as our cast will really knock your socks off."

With the cast selected, next came the exciting part, Glen said.

“We now get to put our vision together and with lots of hard work from our production team to come up with an amazing show,” he said.

“Personally, I’m very excited to get going, and seeing the cast come together in rehearsals is always great fun.”

Little Shop of Horrors will be held at the Paramount from June 11 to 14.
