MAG board chair Sydney Paul sent a letter to parents and guardians on Thursday to announce the change in leadership.
In it, Dr Paul wrote that thanks to Mrs Spry’s leadership, the school was in an excellent position to continue to grow and excel in assisting students, and the strong NAPLAN and HSC results were a testament to her leadership.
“On behalf of the Moama Anglican Grammar Board, and together with Mrs Carmel Spry, we write to you to advise that Carmel will upon the expiration of her five-year term at the end of 2022, resign as Principal of Moama Anglican Grammar,” Dr Paul wrote.
“The board appreciates and thanks Carmel for what she has achieved for Moama Anglican Grammar during her four years as a principal.”
Mrs Spry said 2022 was the last year in her original five-year contract when she started at the school.
“I’m giving 12 months’ notice, and the timing means that board has enough lead in time for the school to find a great replacement and keep the school functioning smoothly and flourishing,” she said.
“I think I’ve done some really great stuff and the school is in a really good position now.
“My children have finished school, and I’m ready to take that next step for myself as well.
“The last two years in particular have been exhausting with COVID and border closures, and so it’s time for a change for me, and I’m looking forward to that.
“It’s time for the next person to step in and bring their ideas and help take the school to the next stage.”
The board has begun the process of finding a replacement for the principal’s position to ensure a smooth transition into 2023 and beyond.
Mrs Spry will finish out the 2022 school year with the school as principal.
