Marcus Corboy, 47, pleaded guilty to a range of charges, including four counts of unlicensed driving, two counts of driving while disqualified, three counts of driving an unregistered vehicle, two counts of making a threat to kill, possessing a controlled weapon, possessing a dangerous article in a public place and cartridge ammunition and possessing both methamphetamine and cannabis.
Between October 16, 2018, and July 30, 2021, Corboy was found driving either while disqualified or unlicensed on six separate occasions, either in Cobram or Yarrawonga.
On one occasion, he sped away quickly from police after they had stopped him in Yarrawonga on April 25, 2019. He was also found with 3.34 g of methamphetamine after being intercepted by police on February 2, 2019.
Police found Corboy in a vehicle that had crashed in Cobram East on May 27, 2019, the court having heard he fell asleep at the wheel.
It was also heard he attended his brother's home address on June 26, 2020, and yelled things such as "you're all dead you dog c****" at his brother's partner.
After his brother located Corboy and confronted him, it was heard Corboy said: "I'm going to kill you, I'm going to come back and shoot you, it's not over until I fix you up".
Corboy was arrested in Cobram on July 30 in relation to four outstanding warrants, along with another three incidents where he was wanted for interview. When his vehicle was searched, police located a knife, a live round of ammunition and a baseball bat.
Defence counsel Megan McKenna asked the court to place Corboy on a sentence deferral involving Court Integrated Services Program support.
She said Corboy had only recently undergone surgery for a brain bleed — an injury his doctor said most would not have survived — and added he wanted an opportunity to engage with support services.
Magistrate Jonathan Klestadt did not grant the deferral, instead sentencing Corboy to one month in prison. Four days had been spent in custody at the time of sentencing.
“You've just run out of chances, it's been going on for too long,” he said.
