In a day of strong competition, Mathoura students secured a litany of impressive accolades, with two students breaking event records, one runner-up district age champion, two district age champions and eight students qualifying to compete in the upcoming Riverina Athletics Carnival to be held in Albury.
Matilda Eddy, an athletic powerhouse, broke the 11 Years Girls’ 1500m record, wiping a massive 55 seconds off the previous record, with a remarkable time of five minutes 49 seconds.
Competing in eight track and field events throughout the championship, Matilda secured many first, second and third placings, and as a result was named the 11 Years Girls’ District Athletics Champion.
Following in the footsteps of her big sister, Katelyn Eddy also broke a record at the carnival.
Katelyn ran the 1500m in record-breaking time, shaving 11 seconds off the previous record held by her sister, Matilda.
Katelyn competed in five track and field events, amassing a multitude of ribbons.
Katelyn was named the District Junior Girl Athletics Champion, a recognition she shared with Vivienne Thompson from Deniliquin South School.
Competing side-by-side with schoolmate Matilda, Georgie Taylor had an inspiring day of sporting successes.
Competing across seven different athletic disciplines, Georgie attained many first and second placings, displaying both determination and impressive talent.
Georgie was named the Runner-Up 11 Years Girls’ District Athletics Champion.
Eight Mathoura Public School students have qualified to compete in the Riverina Athletics Carnival, which will be held on August 26 in Albury.
Students will compete in the 1500m, 800m, 200m, 100m, and 4 x 50m relay races, as well as the field events of discus, shot put and long jump.
Mathoura Public School wishes Chanze Egan, Jobe Unwin, Ava Wardlaw, Georgie Taylor, Matilda Eddy, Katelyn Eddy, Sophie Eddy and Bindi Taylor the best of luck as they continue to strive for sporting triumph.
