Marking 30 years of McHappy Day in Australia, this year a new range of silly socks has been launched, featuring McDonaldland characters Ronald McDonald, Grimace and Hamburglar.
McHappy Day is the largest annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Australia, helping children and their families stay together and close to care while undergoing treatment or surgery in hospital.
“Unfortunately, a lot of these things come as a surprise to families, and they’re put under pressure at a really difficult time and they may spend some time at the Ronald McDonald houses,” McDonald’s Echuca owner-operator Scott Moller said.
“When families are stressed and finding things difficult it’s good to know we’re supporting something that’s there so families can stay together. Also, with all the supportive programs there to help kids get back on their feet after treatment.”
As well as the socks, which are available now for purchase at $5 per pair, McDonald’s Echuca is running a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses including Echuca Workers Club, Platypus Shoes and Intersport Bennett’s, with tickets available in-store.
A ‘Helping Hand’ can also be bought for either $2 or $10, which will adorn the interior of the restaurant with the name of the donor written on each hand.
On McHappy Day itself – Saturday, November 13 – $2 from every Big Mac sold will go directly to RMHC, and drive-through customers may have their cars washed by volunteers for a small donation.
Fundraising continues throughout the year for McDonald’s Echuca, with the crew making donations on themed casual days.
“McHappy Day is crucial to enabling us to continue to help seriously ill and injured children and their families across Australia,” Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia chief executive Barbara Ryan said.
“Funds raised by McDonald’s and its customers through the purchase of Silly Socks support programs such as Ronald McDonald Houses, family rooms, family retreats and our national learning program, which make a real impact in the lives of families and children in their time of need.”
