But that is nothing compared to what her friend is going through, having recently been diagnosed with rare endocrine tumours.
Seventy people came along to the 1895 The Royal on Saturday, April 1 to watch Mrs Macdonald shave her head for a good cause.
“We raised over $5000 for the Cancer Council, as well as over $2000 in cash on the day,” Mrs Macdonald said.
“And we had roughly $3000 in donations from local businesses, as well.”
The cash raised on the day will be gifted directly to Mrs Macdonald’s friend, who is going through treatment with no change to her current diagnosis.
“It is still another eight months of chemotherapy for her,” Mrs Macdonald said.
“Then she will obviously go for further tests to determine the outcome from eight months of chemotherapy.
“I get goosebumps thinking about it.
“One small gesture of me shaving my head is nothing compared to what she is going through.
“Everyone’s generosity is going to help her with things like a cook or cleaner, transport or a new wig.
“There are so many things that if we can just take one burden away from her...”
Not everything went as planned at 1895 The Royal.
Due to safety concerns, Mrs Macdonald had to return to the Chop Shop the following Tuesday to finish the shave.
“I couldn’t shave my head at the Royal, there were just too many people there and having open blades and boiling hot water, it just wasn’t the right environment,” she said.
“So I went back to the Chop Shop on Tuesday and live-streamed it on my Facebook page of Maddie from the Chop Shop doing the shave.
“And she was blown away.
“She had to use the mini clippers to get my hair back to a zero and then do the cut shave.
“My hair is growing back like wildfire.”
Mrs Macdonald extended her thanks to everyone, including the businesses that supported her to raise funds for her friend and the Cancer Council.
The thanks was extended to Fire Pits R Us for the major raffle prize of a fire pit, which was won by Lisa B.
