But they will meet again in 2020 for a brilliant cause - helping a football club devastated by bushfire.
The Moama and Mathoura Football Clubs will clash in a one off match to raise money for the Corryong Football Club.
Mathoura sponsorship co-ordinator Liv Brownfield said the idea came about while watching the destruction on the news.
“We started putting our brains together to see what we could do as a club to help,” she said.
“We decided to put together a game for the community as a way to support another club who is struggling.
“Corryong have the same colours as us, they sing the same song, so we have a nice bond with them already. They've been hit pretty badly by the fires, so we felt a desire to help out.”
Moama president Matt Lake said his club were excited to be a part of the game.
“The second Mathoura got into contact with us we wanted to be a part of it,” he said.
“It's a great opportunity to work together to help out a club who is going through a really tough time at the moment.”
Lake said it was important for everyone to do their bit.
“This is a very special community,” he said.
“We're excited for the opportunity to come together and help out where we can.”
The twilight match will be played on Friday, February 21 at Jack Eddy Oval, with a gold coin donation to get you into the ground, and any contribution accepted.
Both clubs’ major sponsor, the Moama Bowling Club, will also be making a contribution.
“Both clubs made contact with the idea of a game,” COO Liam Fleming said.
“It's a fantastic cause, and we are always excited to help out where we can with causes like these. As a club, we will match whatever donations are made on game day, and we will also be working to find other avenues in the lead up to the game to help out Corryong.
“We've been incredibly lucky in Echuca-Moama in that we are largely untouched by the fires, but there would be very few people here who don't know someone or a cause that has been affected by these fires.
“We really want to help where we can - we know if the shoe was on the other foot people would be trying to help this community out - so as a community club its important for us to dig in and help those who need it.”
