Funded via the NSW Government, the program endeavours to support the community in their efforts to preserve heritage items within the council.
A total of five applications were received by council for the 2019/'20 round, with three recommended for funding.
Moama Cemetery was among the successful applicants, awarded $3320 under the program for the next stage of development of the Moama Cemetery Memorial Walk.
The overall project includes the installation of a series of plinths and plaques, each bearing the name and date of death of persons who were buried in the cemetery in unmarked graves, supporting the ongoing efforts to build upon the town’s local history.
Murray River Council mayor Chris Bilkey said the three projects were important heritage projects within the area.
“These initiatives will enhance key items in our rich collection of historical sites, buildings and artefacts located in the council area,” he said.
“It’s pleasing that these works can now go ahead and we can continue to preserve our history for current and future generations to enjoy.”
