Keen to jump straight into the role, Probationary Const Young finished up with the police academy on Friday, April 29, and started working with the Moama Police on Monday, May 2.
Originally hailing from Sydney, Probationary Const Young specifically requested to be sent to Moama.
“I made the decision to come here because I wanted to get out into the country and into a smaller community where I could really make a positive difference,” Probationary Const Young said.
Inspector Huggett of the Murray River Police District said that Probationary Const Young was a “welcome addition to the team”.
“As much as we are teaching Dayne, he is also teaching us,” Insp Huggett said.
“He brings with him the latest tools, the latest training and the latest knowledge straight from the academy.”
Probationary Const Young will be on probation for 12 months and will be partnered up with a field training officer for the first three months of his probation.
He will be required to remain at the Moama Police Station for three years.
Insp Huggett said Probationary Const Young would be exposed to all manners of diverse crimes during his time spent with the Moama Police.
He said Probationary Const Young’s confidence would grow as he was exposed to each crime.
“Over the first few weeks, he will be pulling over vehicles and conducting random breath testing, undertaking community policing, responding to reports of crime and interacting with the local public and community,” Insp Huggett said.
“Through all these stages, he will be supervised by a senior member of our station.”
Probationary Const Young said he had enjoyed his first week and was looking forward to getting to know the community he would be helping to keep safe.
