The donation of $36,000 enabled ERH to purchase new medical equipment including an arterial blood gas analyser (ABG), which will provide immediate blood results for patients in its high dependency unit.
ERH chief executive Nick Bush said the ABG would take them a step closer to upgrading their high dependency unit into an intensive care unit.
“The ABG allows the doctors and nurses to have blood results instantaneously, so they know the status of the patient’s health that allows earlier intervention into treatment,” he said.
“Potentially if we have people with COVID-19, they’ll get care at home in Echuca rather than being transferred out.”
Mr Bush said ERH was very appreciative for the ongoing support from Moama RSL.
“It gives us the opportunity to improve our services with much needed medical equipment,” he said.
“Thank you to the RSL for the great support and thank you to the broader community for their support of the health service.”
It’s not the first significant donation the RSL has made to ERH; when the hospital was being built it contributed to the rehabilitation centre, and has been an long-term supporter.
Moama RSL chief executive Ash Menzies said one of their major objectives was to support the local community.
“We know the wonderful work that ERH do, and there’s always a need for upgrades to medical equipment to assist patients and staff,” he said.
“It’s a great community asset and touches the hearts of all of our members, we all visit or are patients at some stage at ERH and we’re very pleased to be able to support their great work.”
The donation is part of the NSW club grants system where all registered clubs contribute a portion of their turnover to community projects.
Moama RSL has also supported NSW Police and the Moama & District Preschool.
