Moama RSL chief executive officer Ashley Menzies could not help but make Moama RSL part of the great efforts of River Relief.
“Our president, Stan Barker, suggested that we purchase the shirts for all of our staff to wear and support such a wonderful cause,” Mr Menzies said.
“We knew all the proceeds would assist flood victims directly and that’s a huge bonus of this campaign.
“We didn’t want to just leave it at that so we also decided to have a special day at the club to raise even more funds to donate to River Relief, hence the special raffle, meals and drinks to raise even more funds.
“We hope to see lots of members and guests here to help us do this.”
The items where the profits on the day will go towards River Relief include ‘Frothy for Floods’ (a purchase of a Great Northern or Carlton Draught), ‘Campaspe Coffee and Cake’ and a ‘River Run’ cocktail special.
The night’s raffle will go on sale from 6pm and start to be drawn at 8pm, with over $5000 in gift cards and vouchers up for grabs.
Because it is the last Wednesday before Christmas, the Christmas carvery of ham, turkey, plum pudding and all the trimmings will be on, available for dinner only.
River Relief co-ordinator Lou Conway will be at the event from 4pm to 8pm, with volunteers selling the group’s T-shirts and stubby holders — the ideal last-minute stocking filler.
The day at Moama RSL is also serving as a thank you to the community and the staff for all the effort they have been putting in recently.
“So many of our workforce have packed and laid sandbags and prepared meals for volunteers, and have since been involved in the clean-up,” Mr Menzies said.
“I’m extremely proud of the outstanding people we are fortunate enough to have working for us here at Moama RSL.
“I’d like to think that this special day also recognises their fantastic contribution to our community.”
