He is an eight-time premiership player across several competitions, while he brings experience including second-tier state competitions in the Northern Territory, Queensland and South Australia.
And Magpies senior coach Luke Eldridge believes his knowledge of the game is as good as anyone he knows.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing what Justin will bring to our group,” he said.
“I think having someone with his experience in different types of environments is going to be crucial for a lot of our younger guys.
“I’ve been mates with ‘Fezz’ (Wilson’s nickname is either Fezz or Ferret) for a number of years and played in a premiership with his brother Hayden.
“He is living and working in Echuca-Moama at the moment for at least the next 12 months so it was a no-brainer to get him onboard.
“He might be a little bit older but having smarts out on the ground are as crucial as anything.
“Justin is really keen to take drills as well and having a different voice can be really beneficial because everyone learns in their own way.”
Eldridge said he and his assistant coaches would also benefit from having a player of Wilson’s ilk in the playing group.
“It will allow me to focus my time elsewhere,” he said.
“I’m sure he will bring different ideas not just at training but on game day. He’s another voice out on the ground to point the boys in the right direction.
“Darcy (Bibby, who is Eldridge’s assistant coach) is only taking his first steps in the coaching ranks so I’m sure he is looking forward to learning from him as well.
“The stronger our coaching panel is, the better it is going to be for our group as a whole.”
Moama will make an official return to pre-season training this week and Eldridge said he was looking forward to bringing the group back together.
“It’s a really exciting time across the football community,” he said.
“Everyone has been itching to get back and now we’re looking forward to working towards round one.”
Wilson could potentially be an opponent to a familiar face when the Magpies play Tongala in 2021.
Earlier in his career, he played alongside Blues’ star Cam Ilett in a premiership for St Mary’s in the NT.
