With torrents of water streaming down the Campaspe and Murray Rivers, people from all over the region had been busy preparing for what was to come.
Thousands of people had helped both fill sandbags and build walls to protect against the deluge, with the whole community rallying together to help one another.
Near Beechworth Bakery on High St, Echuca, work on the massive wall that runs behind businesses had just finished for the day.
A group of men had been working on it all day, some of dozens of people who had been helping out at this location alone.
With the wall finished, Nick, Liam, Nic, Jake, Dale, Paddy, Sam, Zane and Jack were enjoying a cold beer in the warm Tuesday twilight.
This was not the first time they’d been helping out with the massive flood preparations, and it would not be the last.
The group were a regular site across Moama and Echuca – whether it be filling sandbags, helping move them to locations of need or helping build walls that helped save homes and businesses.
